TransposableElements

About us

The Research Network on Mobile Genetic Elements (CNRS GDR 3546) has been federating the French scientific community interested in transposable elements for over 20 years. This network of nearly fifty teams provides a unique opportunity for stimulating exchanges and collaborations, building on a diversity of studied organisms, experimental approaches, and biological questions addressed. The participating teams are affiliated with most of the major French research institutions (CNRS, Inserm, Ifremer, INRAE, Institut Pasteur, Institut Curie, IRD, CIRAD, …) and Universities, and are located across France. The last decade has seen an avalanche of high-throughput sequencing data, including complete genomes. This has brought to the spotlight the specificities and challenges associated with transposable elements and their diversity, as well as the need for transversal research axes that encompass mechanistic and structural, evolutionary, genomic and bioinformatics studies. Thus, our research group, by its interdisciplinary nature, is at the forefront in the development of international databases and bioinformatics tools to identify mobile genetic elements and their consequences on genomes. In addition to an internationally recognized scientific and technological expertise, our network is renowned for organizing an annual national congress (CNET) and an international congress every 4 years (ICTE) in St Malo (link conferences).
